History Nijenhuis flowerbulbs
In 1956 came Bernard and Riek Nijenhuis from the Gelderse Achterhoek to the then still virgin Noordoostpolder where they could lease a company of 24 ha.
Initially it was a mixed farm with cows and arable land. In 1978 the cows were sold and the cultivation of flowerbulbs started. Initially, the only flowering plant tulips, but soon the cultivation of gladioli also started.
In 1984 entirety Marcel the company and the role of the bulbs is becoming increasingly important.
By scaling up and expansion, the company has grown significantly and there are now over 50 hectares tulips and 30 hectares gladioli.
There is also a branch arable present. Potatoes seed, plant onions, sugar beets and grasses are grown arable crops and cover a combined area of about 40 ha.
Continued specialization resulted in the addition so-called free flowering cultivars growing plant to be protected cultivars grown.
